The most significant thing that I

can do, is represent the possibility.

        — Lloyd L. Slater

SUMMARY:

Chief Lloyd Lawrence Slater was born in Brooklyn, New York, where after graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Army for a rigorous and challenging career in special warfare/special operations. After completing airborne school and undergoing an intensive screening and selection process, he earned an assignment into the 1st Ranger Battalion at Fort Stewart, Georgia. His experiences and training during those early years had a profound influence on the development of his character and self-discipline.

Years later, after completing his final assignment in Germany and being honorably discharged from the Army, he, his wife Lydia, and two daughters, Latoya and Andrea, returned to the United States and Georgia’s warm climate to live in Hinesville. Since joining the Hinesville Police Department in 1986, Chief Slater has served in various leadership positions, including: emergency services dive unit commander, watch commander, uniform patrol division commander, assistant chief of police, and chief of police.1

Values-based, vision-led, and purpose-driven. In his “off” time, Chief Slater likes swimming, reading, and spending time with his family. He is an adventurer and avid believer in self-improvement but admits his most significant goal is to make the Hinesville Police Department—“Nothing less than exceptional.”
