Captain William Oberlander has spent most of his professional career in federal and municipal law enforcement. Before joining the Hinesville Police Department, he was in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps for eight years, where he held various leadership positions in investigations, physical security, and as a K-9 handler.

In 1993, he joined the Hinesville Police Department as a patrol officer and worked his way up the ranks. Due to his extensive background, he spent most of his career supervising specialized units such as Community Oriented Policing supervisor, Crime Suppression Unit commander, Narcotics Unit commander, Patrol Division watch commander, and his current assignment as Criminal Investigations Division commander.

"There are few things more rewarding in our profession than the advocation of our victims through investigation, arrest, and the successful prosecution of those responsible. It is my firm belief that positioning our officers in a pro-active manner is the best way to prevent crime and protect the citizens of our community.”
